Not everything in the PC modding world has to cost £8000 and take a degree in engineering to install. These few bits and pieces should let you have a decent looking rig without the hefty price tag.

CC's: Cold Cathodes. These funky little strip light can be bought from shops everywhere that sells PC modding parts. They come with a box with a switch and a power adaptor for the Cathodes to run on. Dont worry about fitting them, a few sticky pads will secure these in place for years to come. They come in a few different colours so cater for all walks of modding and cost about £5 a pair if you go to an expensive shop. These will illuminate the inside of your PC and stick to its theme. A handy tool if you have the next item on the list.

Side Window: On desktops this would go on the top obviously and on the side of a tower unit. This is simpley a Plexiglass panel which is see through so the innards of your lovely beast will be exposed for all to see but the cooling system is kept in order and dust wont get into your machine nearly as much. When combined with cold cathodes, these can become a great section to look at the hardware inside your rig and you can get commended without even having to take the side off. A clear plexi sheet will set you back a mere £5. Bear in mind this is a permanent mod since you have to cut out the panel that sits on the side of your case and can take a few hours to get it to a high enough standard. This also requires a cutting tool which will cost extra if you dont have one already.

Illuminated hardware: Having your rig all lit up like a christmas tree is all well and good but surely the rest of your stuff can match too? This doesnt have to require prising open your lovely gaming keyboard but if you want to then a few LED's can be stuck onto the Scroll lock key and will illuminate the underside of the board a treat. Modding a mouse can quite easily break it and isn't recommended unless you have a cheap mouse and can afford to replace it. Change the LED used for light to blue or green, whichever matches your computers theme. The easier option would be an illuminated mousemat. These can be found on almost any e-tailer costing from £7-£50 depending upon what you want doing and extra things like USB hubs and such. LED's can be bought from most electronics shops for about 20p a piece but bear in mind soldering tools and wires are obviously required and these mods too are permanent.
